A brief history

New Atlantis started as the choices project around 35 years ago, it was in the first case a group of writers, looking at the choices in life. We considered life as paths through a forest, where you cannot see where the choices lead, but later from a high point, with experience and hindsight it all becomes clear. We asked the question, are all the choices visible at the time or only after?

Over time, we looked at many things, from life's choices and belief systems, to ways various countries are run.

As it developed we changed the name to Atlantis, after the mythical kingdom, and later New Atlantis when the non profit legal entity was established.

Since that we have continued to grow, and also formed a number of clubs, the first of these was floated free, but we found this not a working option. The original discussions and investigations continued in one of these, the Independent Inquiry Society. Some of the clubs spun off businesses, a publishing company, a TV production company, model and actors agencies, and an administration company with a division to handle the paperwork and administration of non profit entities.

We got to the stage after several moves of having a large center, with a studio, many rooms, so a lot of training was possible and it even an indoor swimming pool.

What happened next we cannot yet tell you completely about, as there are still large civil legal claims outstanding in relation to the damages we sustained. What I can say is that it involved corruption, and resulted in all our UK operations being completely suspended and most of the work we had done being destroyed. Eventually we will tell the whole story, and you will then find it not on this site but on the Independent Inquiry Society site. We decided before we set up the first New Atlantis site that it might be safer to have the Independent Inquiry Society on a site located outside the UK. however both it and this site was taken off in 1999.

Legal action brought against our president was completely thrown out last December when the judger was highly critical of police action. Up to then censorship, in the form of court orders banning media coverage was in place, since that their has been  a lot of media coverage, some running for several pages in a single paper, all supportive to us, and many stating that an inquiry was necessary. Our President produced a large and detailed report that showed where wrong doing, corruption and purgery could be proven to exist. The Police who have a department with a duel role of investigate them selves and avoiding damages claims said they could not see any wrongdoing. 

Early in 1999, anticipating problems, we took the unusual step of turning the membership of New Atlantis and the independent Inquiry Society secret, and making sure that the membership records of these two were not kept at our premises, or within the UK again I cannot tell you the detail. However I can say that it proved justified, and for many months we lost control of all our club membership records, and all out computers and records and although now in 2002, we have had some returned a judge recently ruled that 2 transit loads of our material is still being held. Late in 1999 we took the decision to suspend all other UK operations, when we felt it was too dangerous for any member to continue running them. Therefore at this time none of the UK clubs are running and both New Atlantis and the Independent Inquiry Society are running in secret mode.

You can still join New Atlantis or the IIS, but you will need to form your own cell, as we cannot put you in touch with other branches. There is also no membership fee's as membership fees would be traceable, and compromise your security. 

2002

In 2002, we are regrouping, and our beliefs are as strong as ever. Financially we have suffered a great setback, some estimate the damage we encountered at over £100M, ($150M). The UK clubs that provided enjoyment to so many are destroyed, and the companies that opened up new possibilities for so many from their dreams are still largely suspended. 

Back many years ago we had advanced Builiton boards before the internet was available, now we are involved in new ways to make the internet more accessible and friendly, and at the same time make information available to all. We are very active in many areas, such as the internet-consortium, the worldwide library, independent factfinders and others, as well as encouraging the creation of a larger virtual world, through Atlantis Virtual World.
