Models and Actors Portfolio
Sessions.
Model Club and Talent Club International
also available to non members
Introduction:
This handout explains the types of portfolio available, the costs of each
to you, and how to book. It also explains what you should do before a portfolio
session and what you should bring with you.
We have simplified the variations as far as we can, but if you need something
different then either call and discuss your requirements or take the session
you feel is most appropriate and discuss the situation with the photographer
on the day.
All the photographic sessions now take place at our studios near Gloucester.
Collection from Gloucester railway station is available.
Children under 12 should be accompanied by parents, 12 to 14 can be, over
14 do not need chaperoning. At all times photography is in progress both
a male and female adult will be in the premises.
Standard Portfolio
In this session you are photographed in a minimum of three changes of clothes,
possibly more and have a wide a range of photographs taken as is practical
to show the full range of work that you are prepared to undertake. The exact
number of photographs and the content is left up to the photographer, and
differs with the range and type of work you are going to do, but is often
around 30 photographs for this size of portfolio, and often this is a number
of each outfit or pose. Usually three or four models or performers have the
same appointment time, so that while you are changing another person can
be photographed. Providing the weather is suitable photographs are taken
within the photogenic grounds and also in a studio. The length of the sessions
vary but will be around an hour and a half to two hours. After the session
the photographs are processed and in about 4 weeks, you get a show book with
semi transparent cover and a minimum of eight 9x6 colour prints. You may
also get a collection of other prints that have not been used within the
portfolio. If you have an agency, then the agency will also get a full set
of the photographs taken
Extended Session
This contains everything included in the standard session with more photos,
and also a number of outdoor shots in or around the grounds and river. No
more than four models are in attendance at any time and sessions take usually
around 3 to 4 hours, and are usually organised with models of the same sex
and around the same age. Suitable for people age 12 and over. Around 60
photographs are taken, and the portfolio usually has between 15 to 20
photographs.
Deluxe Session.
For female models over 14 only, as we do not require the same amount of time
with men.
The deluxe sessions takes a whole day and also gives time for you to chat
informally with the clubs photographer about the type of work best suited
to you. You must be 14 or over to attend this. Deluxe portfolio sessions
are organised with 1 or 2 people of around the same age. Both underwear
advertising and boudoir, which is glamour with all the important bits covered
up, are included in the programme. It is not practical to have anyone with
you on deluxe portfolio sessions. Usually around 120 photographs are taken
producing a portfolio with between 30 to 40 photographs. Models really enjoy
this session.
Deluxe Plus.
Similar to deluxe, but for female models 16 and over, it also contains some
topless (page 3) and some photographic nude shots. This is taken very slowly
and ideal for those who want to experiment to see what they enjoy and are
happy to undertake. Poses are suggested to you, but you decide if you want
to try them or not. This session does not normally include what is known
as top shelf work, or pornography. No photographs are released to anyone
else until after you have had your set, and had a chance to ask for any specific
ones to be withdrawn.
Update
After a period your appearance may change or you may want to add additional
shots, or experiment with different types of work. The update session is
aimed at doing just this taking around 30 photographs.

Some Questions Answered
Why is it at Gloucester?
The clubs base at Gloucester, has many advantages, in that it is a large
house, with a number of natural sets which is better than all shots having
a plain back cloth, it also has grounds with hedges and trees that make natural
sets. The grounds go down to the tidal river Severn. For small children we
have a climbing frame, electric jeep, a range of garden and studio toys so
that they can relax when arriving before diving straight into a photo session.
With a studio, swimming pool, and variety of ideal locations there
is always plenty of variety.
Which session is best for me?
If you are very young, perhaps under 12 or a mature model say over 30, or
a performer as opposed to a model, not interested in modelling work or
advertising, then the standard session is probably the best for you. While
if you are a model with a fairly wide range of interests the extended would
be better. If you are female between 14 and 30, with an interest in modelling,
the deluxe or deluxe plus session would be best for you.
What should I wear?
To travel wear something comfortable and change on arrival. Bring with you
as wide a range of items as you can, including party or evening wear, a bikini
and or swimsuit, and special outfits you have that are different. The idea
is to have as wide a range as possible with you to choose from. You want
some underwear that you can wear for a mock up of an underwear advertisement,
and something tidy by casual. You can bring as much as you like and there
are hanging rails and coat hangers available to allow you to sort out what
you bring. A large towel is useful for use as a shawl to keep warm while
waiting for your turn and for hiding behind if you need to. Generally avoid
too much that is baggy or black clothes unless short or tight fitting, as
both of these fail to show your shape well but if in doubt bring it with
you, remember the purpose of the portfolio is to sell you.
What about children?
Bring as wide a range of items as possible. The standard session is ideal
for small children, and we have a range of large outdoor toys including a
large climbing frame and electric jeep, as well as toys and teddies indoors.
We suggest that especially small children arrive in casual clothes and are
allowed to play a little before being changed and taking part in the photo
session.
What do I need to consider?
You need to arrive on time particularly for the standard session, arrive
with hair washed, a means to comb and handle your hair in as many styles
as you are able. You also need beforehand to become confident with makeup,
a little often being preferred to a major paint job. We do have a large range
of makeup and a person is usually present who can help you out with makeup
iff you like.
Do I need a chaperone?
Yes, if you are under 12. Above this, as it is a club event, you do not need
to have one unless you want to, and generally we would recommend that you
try the session without one, as you will be far less self conscious than
with someone watching you. The clubs base is located in such a nice place
that if you can get someone to bring you, they will have a far more interesting
time locally than waiting for you. Chaperones are not permitted on the deluxe
or deluxe plus portfolios sessions.
Can I ask to go with another person who is also having the same
portfolio session?
Yes, just send in your forms together and enclose a note to say you want
to go together.
I'm not sure about topless and nude shots, and maybe too
shy?
If you have got to the point where you would like to try, then you will enjoy
this on the session, but perhaps after may decide not to include them in
your main portfolio or may ask for a few extra pages to be made up so that
you can select when these pages are shown, keeping gran and aunt happy. Remember
you never have to do anything that you do not want to.
Tell them about video portfolios?
Video portfolios are videos usually containing a combination of video and
still shots edited together. Information on these are contained on a separate
booking form with video test. Generally you want a good portfolio first,
and maybe then later consider adding a video portfolio which can also use
these shots.
What I really want is not shown, have you other
services?
We have tried to simplify bookings so that we can cope easily with what most
people want. If you have different requirements, and its legal, we will
photograph you. Call and discuss your needs.
